Ava Preston “Jazz Gone Wrong” @ BOP STOP

Cleveland’s own rising star vocalist, Ava Preston, returns to the BOP STOP to perform an unexpected twist on jazz standards along with original pieces by Ava. Tickets for this evening are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.

Ava Preston is an 18-year-old vocalist and songwriter from Cleveland who performs a unique mix of jazz, blues, pop/rock and originals. Audience members often describe her as an “Old Soul.” She is an 11x Downbeat Student Music Award Winner: 6x for Vocal Jazz Soloist 2018-2023 and 5x for Blues/Pop/Rock Soloist 2018, 2020-2023. Ava is also a 2023 YoungArts Finalist and Silver Award Winner for Jazz Voice. Ava is the recipient of Cleveland’s Top Stage Performance for the 2023 High School Standout Awards.
An active singer in Northeast Ohio, she has been featured at a number of local venues including The Bop Stop, BluJazz+, Beachland Ballroom, Tri-C JazzFest, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to name a few. She has also performed with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, Dominick Farinacci, her own combos, and is the lead singer for two 17-piece big bands.
On the national scene, Ava has performed at the 2023 Monterey Jazz Festival, Jazz at Lincoln Center (NYC), Birdland Jazz Club (NYC), Smalls (NYC), Con Alma (Pittsburgh), Bluebird Café (Nashville), and Andy’s Jazz Club (Chicago). She has also performed with such jazz greats as Christian McBride, Monty Alexander, John Clayton, and Sullivan Fortner.
As an aspiring songwriter, Ava has recorded a number of original songs that span jazz, indie, and pop/rock. She is releasing five original songs in 2023.
