BOP STOP at The Music Settlement is Cleveland's premier listening room: an intimate, acoustically pristine performance venue with sweeping views of Lake Erie.

Master organist/pianist Dr. David Thomas leads an incredible group for a special night of music at the BOP STOP. Joining the band for a few numbers will be guest vocalist Jacob Johnson. Tickets for tonight are $20 each in advance, $25 day of show.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, David Manning Thomas relocated to Cleveland Ohio after many tours with Dizzy Gillespie, Albert Ayler, Jean Carne, Major Harris (singer of the hit song “Love Won’t Let Me Wait”) formerly of The Delfonics, and then with Rose Royce (the group from the hit movie “Car Wash”). David has earned the distinction of being listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Education. He is also a member of Alpha Kappa Mu Distinguished Honor Society and Phi Delta Kappa International.
David studied at The Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University and The Cleveland Institute of Music. His studies earned him bachelor and master’s degree in music education from Case Western Reserve University, as well as a Master of Music in Composition degree from Cleveland State University. David did post-graduate work at the Royal Holloway College (U.K.), Camden University (London), then completed his studies in the doctoral of music program at Kent State University.
David is a performer, composer, arranger, and director of music. Music, composed by David Thomas include a composition for choir and orchestra, entitled “The Creation Sermon”, “Songs of a Journey to Freedom”, for the Cleveland Chamber Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Municipal All-City Chorus combined with local church choirs. He has also composed music for the popular jazz group “Pieces of a Dream”. His arrangements and compositions have been recorded and performed by many amateur and professional musicians. His compositions also include soundtracks for The Silver Burdett Educational Music Series used by music teachers in the public and private school classrooms in the USA and abroad. He has music published by GIA Publications, Inc and is the co-author of a book entitled “A Child’s First Book of Spirituals”, which is the recipient of the Coretta Scott King Award. He is also the recipient of the Cleveland Louis & Carl Stoke Jazz Legend Award and the Tri-C Jazz Legend Award. He has He has served as music director for many musicals which include Dreamgirls, Rent, Bubbling Brown Sugar, The Wiz, Aida, Blues in the Night, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Memphis, and many more. He served as the music director, composer and arranger for 2022 and 2023 production of Black Nativity and received honorable mention in the category of best musical direction by Cleveland Critics Circle 2023 Theater Awards. He is presently the music director of the Emmy nominated Cleveland Schools All- City Performing Arts Program and the resident music director at the historical Karamu Performing Arts Theatre.
