Nan O'Malley has been a singer/musician of note in Cleveland area for many years. She led shows at Nighttown with themes including Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Peggy Lee, and Great American Women Songwriters. She currently sings with the M2B2 Big Band. She continues to work with the traditional Irish band, the Bogtrotters, and regularly appears at the 10 x3 Songwriters showcase at the Bop Stop. The Bop Stop is pleased to host the tribute to Doris. Here are a few words from Nan about Doris.
"I knew Doris Long for many years, so when I moved back to Lakewood, I became a regular at the Waterbury Coach House, where she played every Friday with Joe Hunter, Dallas Coffey and Val Kent. Al Fuller would sit at the end of the bar and play sax. It was a cozy set up and the jazz fans poured in.
Doris knew her tunes inside and out and her voice became richer and more subtle as years went by. Her ballads were truly heartfelt.
She loved dressing up and played the part of diva/songstress without missing a beat. The group played there for 13 years until the Waterbury was sold and the Covid hit in 2020.
Doris and I were invited in March of 2021 to sing with Paul Ferguson’s Little Big Band at the Bop Stop. It was a night of great music and a highlight of Doris’s career that brought much joy to those who knew her.
For this afternoon’s performance we’ve chosen the best of the many great songs that Doris sang for us and hope that we can all recall the great joy that Doris gave us with her loving gift of song."
