Come enjoy the unique sound of old-time music at BOP STOP.

Once called “mountain music,” the instrumental folk music of America (now referred to as “old-time”) has a history as diverse as the people who played it. Before radio and television, this music was daily entertainment, used for dances, and was a backdrop for social events. We invite you to join us for this entertaining and educational concert that is free and open to the public.

Featuring:

  • Paul Kirk, fiddle
  • Stephen Rapp, banjo
  • Mark McNulty, guitar

------------------

Paul Kirk has been playing and teaching fiddle for over 40 years. His book, Marion Thede and the Fiddlers of Oklahoma: The Fiddle Book, the Musicians and Their Tunes will be published this year by McFarland & Company. Paul currently teaches fiddle and leads a monthly old-time jam at TMS.

Stephen Rapp has been playing instrumental folk music since the 1970s. Once a part of the Irish music scene on flute, he now focuses on claw-hammer banjo which is closely related to the akonting, an ancestral African instrument. Stephen has been contributing to Paul Kirk’s Old-Time Tune of the Week series on YouTube since its inception in 2018 and teaches banjo privately out of his home.

Mark McNulty is a multi-instrumentalist who has been making music for over 40 years. He plays multiple genres, including blues, rock, and folk. He currently focuses on guitar, banjo, and fiddle and is a regular contributor to Paul Kirk’s Old-Time Tune of the Week series on YouTube.
