She brings a stellar concert with an amazing band. There will also be talented vocal guests to add pizzazz! Ed Ridley Jr on keys has often performed with Carol over the years. His gift for accompanying vocals is exquisite, gleaned from years playing with celebrity vocalists, as well as musical theater ensembles, eg Karamu Theater, Weathervane Theater. He is a degreed musician, an award-winning composer, arranger, educator, recording engineer, who works with duos, trios and full orchestras, and has become one of the “go to” pianists in NE Ohio!
Ricky Exton on drums adds essential rhythm “layers” to Carol’s shows. His degree from Berklee has enabled him to be as skilled at following the written notes as he is in improvisation. He’s a composer. Thus, he too plays with orchestras and smaller ensembles with equal ease and artistry. His ‘Ricky Exton Octet’ has played at the Bop Stop, and he currently performs at the new Edwins Restaurant, and Blu Jazz in Akron - the jazz trifecta in the region.
Jim Cirillo on saxophone adds a great foundation for Carol’s songs, not just with exceptional solos, but with gentle support under voice throughout. His interpretations are unique, and he adds style and color to every song. He is an investor, tech fan and host of JimJim’s Reinvention Revolution podcast. He has worked with big bands, acoustic jazz combos, electric/rock groups, and tribute bands, giving him a diverse and wide repertoire! He has developed a love of world travel, such as Thailand, Australia, Cuba and the Philippines, where he explores their cultures and shares musical experiences. He has played with and for some dynamic players, including Stevie Wonder.
Julia McLennon on upright bass is a new addition to Carol’s band. She filled in at the last minute for Carol’s last show at the Bop Stop, and wowed the audience so much that Carol just had to have her return! She began studying jazz at the Tri-C Jazz Academy in 2022, and later continued her studies at Kent State University after graduating from high school. At 20 yrs old, she already has had amazing opportunities to work with legendary musicians, including turning pages for Christian McBride, and opening with a student group for the Count Basie Orchestra. She draws inspiration from renowned bass players, such as Ron Carter, Charles Mingus and Oscar Pettiford. She currently performs around NE Ohio with various musicians, including Aiden Bryant’s Cloud 9 Quintet, and ensembles from Kent State University.
