This music heads in every direction. Vigorous and robustly energetic outpourings sit alongside tender and simple melodies. Anthony Fuoco, inspired by his instrument for the evening, plays with textures and techniques guided by his longtime collaborator, ECM artist Carmen Castaldi who acts as navigator here, pulling the group along wherever the music flows. Composer and bandleader Garrett Folger brings a clear, grounded voice to the ensemble, delivering his pieces with poise, conviction, and a deep sense of listening.
