Formed in 2004 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, this exciting combo quickly became popular in the Detroit area jazz scene performing the rhythms of Cuba (mambo, cha cha, rumba, bolero) with mostly original compositions as well as songs by Mongo Santamaria and Tito Puente. Leader Paul Vornhagen has won the Detroit Music Awards on six times as a instrumentalist, recording artist and bandleader. Their first recording, Montuno Salad, won the 2005 Detroit Music Award for best jazz recording to start a yearly progression of nominations and awards. To date, this combo has six different recordings under their belt, produced by Paul Vornhagen, the latest of which is their May 2026 recording, JOY OF THE MAMBO.
