The Suzuki Method was founded over fifty years ago by Shinichi Suzuki, a Japanese violinist and pedagogue. He applied the basic principles of language acquisition to music learning and called it the "mother-tongue" approach. He believed that, given the right environment, any child could learn to play a musical instrument just as they learn to speak their native tongue. Parent involvement, loving encouragement, and emphasis on a beautiful tone are just a few elements of what makes the Suzuki method special.
The Music Settlement offers Suzuki instruction for the following instruments:
Designed for childrenĀ ages 4-6, our Intro to Suzuki course is both a parent education and musical enrichment course. This course will answer any questions you have about becoming a Suzuki parent and serves as a prerequisite for Suzuki instruction at TMS.
Is your child older than 6 years old? Parents whose children are older than 6 can still enroll! Contact the Suzuki department to coordinate a private Introduction to Suzuki course.
