Session Length: One Day

Join The Music Settlement's Creative Aging Department for a summer series celebrating your favorite musical films on the big screen!

The musical documentary spans genres and decades, from pristine reproductions of famed concerts to in-depth looks “behind the music,” following artists as they create in real time, to the musical biopic and the virtuosic performances the medium has inspired. We will explore the inner-workings of the music documentary, analyzing concert performances, behind-the-scenes footage of your favorite artists creating their greatest hits, and more!

From such classics as Stop Making Sense to Summer of Soul to This is Spinal Tap, this course welcomes learners 18+ to explore this varied genre and ask the question: what makes for a great musical performance on film?

This series is for adult students ages 18+.

Drop-In Session Dates:

  • Thursday, July 11 - The Concert Film
  • Thursday, July 25 - Music Behind the Scenes
  • Thursday, August 8 - The Musical Biopic
  • Thursday, August 22 - Parody and Pastiche
